A Satyr
A Satyr

I suppose that the first order of business is to explain the Dr Satyr.org thing.

I am David Travis, and I am a computer guy, I am also the original Dr. Satyr.

Back when I was in college, I met the owner of an adult newspaper. I talked to her about writing some articles for her newspaper. She encouraged me to do that, stating that they might have to edit anything I sent in substantially.

So I needed a pen name. I came up with the name Dick Satyr.  I thought for an adult newspaper that was the perfect name for me. Satyr has two definitions, definition 2a was the one I was after; a lecherous man, perfect.

From the Merriam-Webster Dictionary:

1 often capitalized: a sylvan deity in Greek mythology having certain characteristics of a horse or goat and fond of Dionysian revelry

    2a: a lecherous man

    2b: one having satyriasis

3: any of various satyrid butterflies

Satyrs, the minor forest gods of Greek mythology, had the face, torso, and arms of a man, the ears and tail of a goat, and two goat-like legs. Fond of the pleasures associated with Dionysus (or Bacchus), the god of wine, they were full of playful and sometimes violent energies and spent much of their time chasing the beautiful nature spirits known as nymphs. Satyrs show up over and over in ancient art. The Greek god Pan, with his reed pipes and mischievous delight in life, had the appearance and character of a satyr but greater powers.

So Dick Satyr, then I thought, let’s class it up a bit and so I changed Dick to Richard, then I thought, let’s go one more round and decided to make him a Dr. Not a real Dr., So the pen name morphed into Dr. Richard Satyr.  So then I bought the domain name DrSatyr.com back in the 90’s.

Around 2017 I lost the domain name because it was art a web host and for some reason was never alerted to the fact that it was expiring.  By the time I found out, it was already gone.  I waited and watched for a number of years for that domain name to expire, and it did, I just missed it. Unable to get it back, I decided to buy a different top-level domain, this time .org, which I think makes more sense.

I came up with Dr. Satyr 35 years ago, and I still consider it to be my creation. I did end up writing a series of articles for the newspaper, and in none of them, did they ever change a word of what I wrote.

Now, the question becomes, what am I going to do with it?  Well, I intend to write about my life, I have had a very interesting life, knowledge I want to pass on, and education.

I know a fair amount about several subjects, both academically and practically, I have studied a few things, but also have deep experience with some of these subjects, and that gives me a different perspective than many people on these few specific topics.
